Effective April of 2010, federal law requires that contractors that disturb lead-based paint in homes, child care facilities and schools built before 1978 be certified and follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination.
Homeowners should ask to see their contractor’s certification for any remodeling project that meets the above requirements.
