Government incentives
While accessing federal and state grant dollars may seem overwhelming, opportunities abound for homeowners who are willing to do a little homework. Remodeling projects—especially those involving energy-efficient improvements—often qualify for grants, tax credits and even low-rate loans. - 2010 heating and cooling equipment installations may be eligible for tax credits of up to 30% of the installation costs under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. www.mnhousing.gov
- Project ReEnergize provides rebates directly to qualified homeowners who install energy-efficient windows and/or upgrade attic/exterior insulation. Work must be completed by a Project ReEnergize-qualified contractor. www.projectreenergize.com
- The Residential Energy Efficiency Tax Credit provides up to a $1500 credit for qualifying installations relating to air conditioners, boilers, stoves and furnaces. www.energystar.gov
